I think you might be right on the crime rate not being higher & the media coverage. I can't watch the news anymore. Whether it's floods, terrorist or someone got eaten by a bear
I can see/hear it all
As far as violence & shootings, I think much of it is in only certain cities. They call Chicago the capital of murder, or something like that.
As far as gun control, it should be gun control/elimination from criminals. The politicians won't go there. They also won't go into the real reason(s) why some cities have gangs & very high murder/shooting rates.
I think a fair & correct way to check that is with facts. Find 5 to 10 of the highest crime/shootings cities & check what political party runs those cities
"let the chip fall where they may" p.s. I don't like any party, but some I like less than others
You must know that when you go on unemployment, you have to show someone a list of places you went to find a job. For years the same applied if you go on welfare, you had to show that you're trying to find a job. Recently that has been changed. You no longer have to look for a job if you collect welfare. 100% true! So does the Govt. want people to stay on welfare for the rest of their life? I don't get it....
