Most of the individuals killed or injured in this attack (call it what it is) were civilian DOD employees NOT military. Yes military installations are gun free zones with the exception of DOD police and USMC security forces and ships force performing MA duties. I possess a concealed carry permit but that doesn't matter on a military intallation, schools, bars, court houses and other government facilities. While I do not agree with these exclusions (the past has shown this is where these attrocities occur) unfortunately the only way to protect yourself in these situations is to become an outlaw yourself. All a "gun free zone" does is announce open season on innocent unarmed citizens
