If you are spraying the engine compartment when it happens, the firewall sealing boot probably needs to be adjusted or replaced. Check to make sure the boot is sealing around all wiring and has a good seal at the firewall.

madwi's silicone should work very well but tends to look bad if you have to seal a large tear/crack. If the boot is not sealing around a wiring bundle, wire ties may help.

If it's happening with the hood closed, I'd suggest taking it to a dealer or body shop.
