Just a heads-up to anyone who has a pending application for a firearm in Maryland: there's a possibility your SSN, address, full name, telephone number, and health records are compromised.
Governor O'Malley sanctioned several state agencies to review your 77R (waiver for mental health background check) which contains all your sensitive info. These other agencies are openly known to have employees with gang affiliations/criminal backgrounds. To make things worse: your information is being burned onto a hard copy cd, "planned to be destroyed" after it's used. Who exactly is overseeing this? Nobody.
When you signed this document, it specifically stated that Maryland State Police would be the only entity to review this information.
Gov. O'Malley sanctioned this task force to try to unjam the backlog of paperwork. The backlog has been like this since January, and less than one month before the October 1st deadline, they make an illegal attempt to push things forward? Complete BS.
There's speculation that Gov. O'Malley sanctioned this task force because, if you recall; as of Oct. 1, anyone wishing to purchase a handgun must first go through the proper course and obtain a license to get the handgun. What is the curriculum for said course/license? They haven't even begun to establish it yet. So sensing the impending epic fail on Gov. O'Malley's part, he tries to make things better by putting a bandaid over it... or rubbing dirt in it... whichever.
At first chance, I'm out of this state. It's disgusting how MD govt. treats its citizens.
