Go to court and as the DA personally (if record is clean) to either dismiss or drop to a defective vehicle...(aka taillight out, headlight....). Tell them your story and go from there...no cost to you and looks better cause you're trying to be honest and say there was no need to hire a lawer to prove your case. Good luck buddy!!
