There's plenty of AWD sports cars out there. I picked the Z because it was rwd. Had it been AWD, I wouldn't have bought one.

Adding AWD to the z would increase the cost of a car that is already selling incredibly poorly. Not to mention adding several hundred pounds of weight. That, and Nissan doesn't have an AWD system that will mate up with a manual transmission. So they can either make the Z auto only, or spend a lot of money to redesign their AWD system. Neither of those sound like a solid plan. Even of it doubles Z sales, that brings it up to 20k units a year. Not enough to justify a major drivetrain change like going to AWD.
