I like Ford's direction with the Mustang especially the 2013. A quick glance and you know it's a Mustang, and I can feel that DNA is alive. The new Corvette, IMO, looks good but doesn't look and feel like a Corvette.
The Z, unfortunately, might need to sacrifice some practicality since it's not as practical as other sports cars to begin with (not much to lose there). That way it'll end up with a tighter package, which is more performance oriented, which makes it a much more pleasurable car to drive. For the Z, it's not about the horsepower. It's about the balance, and how efficient it can put that power down to the ground. Plus, it needs to feel faster, which is a thrill. Regardless of how much power it makes, there will always be faster cars.
