1. Direct access to oil filter. No need to remove the OEM for changing oil filter.
It may dissipate the hot air under the panel better, since it's got a few vents. The area in question in this thread is well behind where this, or the OEM panel end.

BTW, if you have an oil cooler, the sandwich plate makes it damn near impossible to get the filter out through the trap door.
