also i don't get why people feel the need to change lanes immediately at a freeway merger... all that does is cause traffic to pile up. it's already going to go slower because of the merger but people trying to swap lanes doesn't help. maybe go like a quarter mile further before trying to change lanes?

Where I get on the freeway we
have to do this, because the two (of five) lanes there lead to the exit to the 17, so we have to merge two lanes fairly quickly in order to get onto the 10.
It's a giant cluster-****. You have people entering the freeway wanting to get onto the 10 and people on the 10 wanting to merge over into the people entering the freeway so they can get to the 17.
