That guys right never grab the cylinder with vise grips if you scratch the chrome plating it will eat the seals on the shocks and leak =blown bouncy shocks in no time but usually theres an allen or some type of way to hold the cylinder from spinning with a wrench if that is not an option you can leave the spring loaded up on the shock and break the nut loose and then compress the spring and take the nut off.
