For what it's worth, each time I do business any amount over $1000 with retailers, I conduct a sit-down with the store manager and specialist at the same time. I am a crude, heartless, uncharacteristically aggressive businessman. I just don't like people trying to pull the rape with my money

My only recommendation is to grill your salesman and his boss. Even if you are not a diamond expert, be a "BS" expert and make them sweat. That much money for diamonds should have you at the top of their priority list, as opposed to a "next in line" kind of customer.
