The rev-matching isn't an auto downshifting function. I think you may be confusing both trans choices. The 7AT is programmed to provide quicker downshifts, while the 6MT with the Rev Matching function will help make sure the engine revs stay in the power band on downshifts for those with less driving skills with a MT.

There's a button to the forward right of the shifter on the 6MT labeled S-Mode (Shift-Mode), which facilitates turning the rev matching function on or off. My understanding is you are not required to drive with this function on if you don't want it. I could be wrong, but that is what I have read and overheard.

Don't fret. Nissan won't emasculate our precious 6MT. ;-)
