yes and yes
The first few times I took them off, I noticed a lot of dirt under them and didn't want to scratch up the paint when removing and reinstalling them. Also, the first time I waxed, I got it all over them and it was a pain to clean up after the fact. Removing them solves both of those problems and is way easier
