Default Nismo AAM short tails

Hey guys so my short tails came yesterday, and I decided to install them at midnight after I got home from work..lol. I took a few pics during the process, and ill post some video when I get some today.

Tools needed will be the following:

Beer (Optional but highly reccomended)

12mm combo wrench / socket

1/2" drive ratchet

14mm combo wrench / socket

8" extension

IF you decide to use combination wrenches I suggest using a larger wrench to lock into the smaller wrench for additional leverage, as some of the fasteners can be pretty tight.

The axel back part of the stock exhaust as well as the AAM has 2 ea. 2bolt flanges, each is indentical. On the stock piping there are studs with 14mm nuts. I removed these with a 14mm combo locked into a 3/4" wrench for leverage since the 14mm just didn't offer enough.

On the drivers side fwd of the exhaust there is this small hanger/ bushing. Remove this bolt with a 14mm wrench as well, no need for a wrench on the back side as the nut is welded in place.

If you look straight up you will see this exhaust hanger/bushing there is one on each side of the exhsust. There are 3 12mm on each side.

Once you remove the factory exhaust this is what you should end up with and the tooling I used.

2 ea. 3 bolt exhaust hanger/ bushing with 6 ea 12mm bolts.

1 ea. Small exhaust hanger/ bushing With 1 ea.14mm bolt ( these will not be re-used with short tails, but save them for either going back to stock or some other exhausts may use them)

4 ea. 14mm exhaust flange nuts. With these short tails you are given new hardware, but because of the welded studs I used existing hardware. I believe the thread pitch of the new hardware was slightly off.

Take the 2 ea. 3 bolt exhaust hanger/bushing and slide the rubber bushing over the hanger on each of the short tail sections. Now you're ready to install.

To install the short tails remove existing exhaust gasket from 2 stud flange and install new gaskets provided. Place each tail section flange over the existing exhaust flange with the 2 studs welded in place. Install 2 ea. 14mm nuts loosely to hold things in place.

Then line up the existing exhaust hanger / bushing bracket with the holes in the chassis and loosely install 3 ea. 12mm bolts.

When you have everything lined up and situated tighten and torque all fasteners. Finished product looks like this.





Overall its a pretty easy install depending on how bad of shape your hardware is in. It took me about an hour to accomplish. Could have been faster but it was late and I was trying not to wake the GF.. lol
