You should be able to adjust it without unbolting the bottom. Tighten the two lock rings under the spring together real tight, then use the spanner wrench on the top ring to turn the assembly clockwise and the bottom ring to turn counter clockwise. Thats how I did mine on my 350z and it worked alright.
