I picked up a PS3 when they produced the 40GB version without BC and has survived since then. I am leaning towards the One this time for the home integration setup, but no games making me really jump.

As someone looking to purchase a house, honestly if I had to choose one RIGHT NOW, it'd be the XBox One. I like the idea of having everything fully integrated.
Everybody is yelling at MSFT because there are devices that do things better than the XBox One claims its capabilities to be, but I can see what Microsoft is doing here. YES there are multiple devices, but why deal with 7 remotes when you have just one? I'd love to have a house TV with just my XBox underneath it, controlling everything. Easy as hell to clean up
I agree with privacy - if you're signed up for Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, ANYTHING SOCIAL - you're already giving up the majority of your privacy rights.
