Keep in mind that, barring leaks, the main reason the fluid reservoir level drops is because your pads are wearing down. If you top off the fluid, then later take out the worn down pads and replace them will new ones, pushing the pistons back in to fit the new pads will overflow the fluid in the reservoir. So you might have to suck some out first (or just take the opportunity to bleed the calipers a bit first).
