With the VVEL system just make sure you can track the oil changes. It's a system we bought the rights to from our German friends. If you haven't seen the system torn apart it's insanely complex. The 370 is new enough still that most who own them take pretty good care of them. I suggest using a good synthetic, our ester oil is very expensive. If you'd like a reasonably priced alternative I'd suggest BMW 5w30 Synthetic. It has the same properties as our oil and I actually prefer it over the ester. Depending on your dealer mark up you can get it from $7-9/qt. Being a tech I pay 6.81 per.
Mechanically they are quite sound. Now, that being said you need to look out for body damage. People under estimate the car get it squirrely and wreck it. Check the bolts that hold the door hinges, bonnet and boot hinges as well. if the paint is chipped around these I'd ask about accident history. Most people stick to the 3750 oil changes. I've always thought this was excessive. When getting oil changes "if you use the dealer" ask them to use a 9E filter, it's about a 1/4qt bigger for the same price and run 5k intervals or even 7500 if you just DD the car. If you have any questions let me know.
