one tip is if you aren't using a fuzy logic one, after it's done, dont open the lid for 5min. that usually allows the rice to soak up the last of the steam to make it soft.
also, allowing rice to soak water before steaming (before you turn it on) helps too.

How long does it take to make long grain rice in the steamer? I'm accustomed to making the instant kind.
