Update to my
original post .
Fair to say the vendor treated me OK. That is, after he accused me of hitting something to cause the o2senor bung to fall off before sending replacement part and return mailer.
NOW I’m faced with another faulty HFC (replacement part) and same issue!!!!!
Incident (first one) ended up costing me $275, which I’m SOL. Had to purchase new o2Sensor and pay $75 for remove/install.
"Exact same" issue happened with the replacement HFC!
I hear exhaust leak. Take a look without jacking car up, and really don’t see anything.
Headed to shop this am to have mechanic tighten exhaust and check gaskets. U know, post install kind of thing.
Before I make it the 3 miles, leak goes into full blown mode...what's happened is o2Sensor bung weld is coming apart (initial leak) before breaking away totally at HFC.
Luckily, I had heard it and pulled into a self serve car wash where I saved 02senor….this time.
Mechanic who is a race car builder, told me on the last visit (replacement) it was his opinion tig weld was faulty. And reason for this was stainless behind weld was black, which indicated it was too hot causing tig to appear solid but was most likely brittle and not strong enough.
He went on to say car vibration would be enough to separate these welded parts
I'm not accusing ERZ/CNT, but want to put info out there for FYI.
The only thing different this time is the fact I have a o2Senor/bung, and you can easily see how part came loose at the weld…
Anyone have any info to add. Wondering about tig weld and/or if part is too heavy for weld? Seems like Berk and some others use a shortened version coming off CFH and might be lighter?
Hate the fact I’m working through HFC gone bad part 2!
