"Nissan says that it will recall as many as 143,000 2008 and 2009 model year Nissan and Infiniti products over a tire-pressure monitoring system nut that may fail in areas where heavy amounts of road salt are used during the winter months.
The automaker will replace a nut that could deteriorate due to the corrosive salt. The nut secures the monitoring system to its sensor-transmitter. If it fails, the monitoring system lamp would illuminate. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that drivers could ignore the lamp when they see no tire is flat and should a problem arise, the system would not adequately warn drivers used to the illuminated lamp.
The small recall will cover vehicles driven in 20 northern states and the District of Columbia, although a non-recall service campaign will be made available for owners in other states that don’t use significant amounts of road salt. It applies to certain 2008 Nissan Rogues, 2009 Nissan Muranos and Cubes and 2008-10 Infiniti M35s and M45s. The automaker will begin notifying customers on November 9 of the recall."
