Don't sweat these reviews. I am a former owner of a E46 BMW M3, modified with CAI, differential, suspension upgrades, wheels etc. I have been very pleased with my recent acquisition of a 370Z. Comparisons so far: 370Z handles very well, It's stance inspires confidence because of reduced body roll compared to the M3 event after upgraded suspensions.
The Z doesn't accelerate as fast as my M3, mostly due to a upgraded differential.
M3 refinement is nice. I like that the 370Z is not attempting to be a luxury sport car.
There have been many complaints about the 370Z exhaust note. First off there are sounds equally pleasurable to a throaty V8. Secondly there were as many complaints about the exhaust sound of M3 as there are about the 370Z, which I like just fine.
Those who have ever owned a BMW knows that it stands for Bring More Wallet. The M3 was an ultimate driving machine. It can keep you driving to the bank. Not a slight just a honest statement of what I learned to live with in order to bask in the "soul" of a German engineered car.
If I were to select between my previous 2003 BMW M3 and the 2009 370Z, I'd choose the Z easily.
