Exclamation How NOT to install a head unit

So a friend I use to work with contacted me yesterday asking if I still work on cars, and that her daughters friend started installing a radio in her 2001 vw but after working on it for 3 hours they had him stop. They wanted me to finish the install. What I found doesn't surprise me as much as it use to. Still sad because I ended up working almost 2 hours on a job that should of taken no more than 20 minutes.

Not a good sign when these are at the bottom of the radio box.

What a hack job, she told me their friend said the metra harness wiring colors were incorrect.

Just was barely able to wire the factory harnesses back on.

Tested

Worked great secured the harness and buttoned up everything.

Didn't get any after photos but after replacing the blown fuse the radio fired right up with no problems.
