I think the 1 series will be a hatchback and wagon. The 2 series are coupes. like BMW 3 series coupes will become the 4 series.

It's something bimmer has historically done on the higher end.
5 series sedan and 6 series coupe
7 series sedan and 8 series coupe.

They are bringing that tradition down to the lower end cars.

Then when the 1 and 2 series is outrageously priced in 5 more years, BMW will bring out the 0 and -1 series.
