I let my gas tank practically empty before I get gas almost every time. I drive plenty hard, and I have never experienced fuel starvation. Maybe some day I will

I don't quite understand the scenario of exiting the freeway at 25 mph and then speeding up to 50+ on the offramp, but Onz, Cyberium, and Bucketlist seem to be dead on in their assessment of the OP.
