Anyone who has ever driven a rotary can attest to the fun factor. I had an RX-3 back in the day and also a Mazda rotary pickup...this was around the gas crisis back in the 70's that almost killed the rotary engine (and Mazda). The big American V8's had become anemic, just no power at all..but they still had the spoilers, the screaming chiickens on the hood, etc.

The RX-3 was the ultimate stealth..I still remember just crushing the ego of some dude in an Olds 4-4-2, lmao. But the rotary pickup, that thing was just pure evil....dropping the rotary into a tiny Ford/Mazda pickup with truck gearing produced the sickest off-the-line burnouts you'll see outside of a drag strip. But man, the gas mileage was brutal for a car that looked like a Corolla. Never driven an RX-anything since, but I loved that engine.

As for performance, i feel once the R3 gets to around 4k on Revs it is an awesome feeling and is great for the twisties but if you want that down right power that can put a smile on your face in any gear the Z certainly ticks the box. As for mods and this was a major contributing factor in why i got the Z, is it's much more accepting to high hp mods without jeopardising the engines integrity.
