You need to be competitive:
Ford Fiesta, Ford Fiesta ST (turbo)
Ford Focus, Ford Focus ST (turbo)
VW Golf, VW GTI (turbo)
Fiat 500, Fiat 500T (turbo), FiaT 500 Abarth (turbo)
Mini Cooper, Mini Cooper S (Turbo)
Chevy sonic, Chevy Sonic RS (turbo)

There is a pattern there!

Brands that don't do the multiple engines:
Nissan Versa
Toyota Vitz/scion xD/Toyota Yaris
Honda Fit

i think the honda fit is still the benchmark of all dd'ed hatches. have to remember most folks, including myself, buys these hatches to carry things in a convenient way. being fun and quick is good....but fast is not required.

reliablity and utility is required... now most of the cars on your list are out.
