It's the opposite: you go out with a professional to learn your own car, and then on the STREET you will be more comfortable.

So, my recommendation? Try a little AutoX or two. Then move up to HPDE.
AutoX can be a good learning environment, as it is usually flat and you have time to come to a stop and regroup if you get lost. I would recommend that you ask someone to give you a ride in their car on the course at speed before your runs.

The HPDE environment is exciting and nerve wracking the first time. Just know that everyone is there for the same reason, to get to know their cars better and improve their skills. Your instructor will keep you out of trouble and walk you through the lines, braking points and track management. You can watch some videos of the track you will be on, and ask those of us who have been on the specific tracks for best practices for specific turns. You will start in the novice group and can leave the electronic driver aids on until you are more comfortable with you abilities and the car. You will not be the fastest on the track, but that IS NOT what those events are about.

More to come later. I'm sure this topic will come up at meets, at ZDayZ and any opportunity that you want to talk about it. Those of us who have done them a lot, or newbies all have something to provide that you can process as part of your learning experience. Be careful and have fun!
