Generally speaking, Nissan has not recommended synthetic oil (at least it didn’t in the 350…I haven’t look at my owner’s manual to see if it still says it’s not recommended). I can tell you, however, that I’ve never heard of anyone having problems because they used or didn’t use synthetic.
Personally, on a brand new car/engine, I change the oil somewhere between the first 25-50 miles (or at least as soon as I can get it done)…and then I would change it at least as often as every 3 months/3,000 miles thereafter (I do it every 1,500 miles/6 weeks for a vehicle I autocross).
I believe that if you change your oil/filter on both a frequent and regular basis, then the most of the benefit of synthetic oil goes away.
BTW...Mobil1 used to be the best but they changed their formulation a while ago and is not as good as it once was; Amsoil still uses the better formulation (not sure where RP rates in that mix).
