I keep my rags until they're absolutely destroyed
I have a shed out back that gets pretty hot, but keeps them out of direct sunlight. I've never really been too worried. Gasoline is notoriously difficult to light without precise AFR. I've been doing it in the Texas summer for a few years now, and my father did the same most of his lifetime without any problems.
