Instead of disconnecting the battery and losing the ECM tuning data (plus radio presets and the window auto-up function), get an OBD scanner (from under $50 to as much as you want to spend)*, see what the ECM thinks went wrong by reading the error code(s) (write it/them down, just in case), and then clear the code(s). If that doesn't work (it should), then try pulling the battery cable.
