Relieving back-pressure will always increase power, but at the expense of low end. The power loss being felt is most likely the loss in velocity of the exhaust gasses at low rpm. The returns in top end of course diminish the larger you go. Hence why dual 2.5" recommended, 2.75 max on a NA car, heck maybe even on supercharged Z's too.
