Default Tire life (mileage) expectations

To give you a quick rundown on driving habits. My wife primarily drives our '10 Touring Sport w/ 7AT. She was able to get 33k + miles out of the stock Potenza REE050's. The rears are starting to become thin on the outer edges and it is time for a new set of tires.

After doing some research on Tirerack I have found a few replacement sets I am interested in and I am trying to weigh my options. Keep in mind that she is the primary driver and does not drive aggressively, and the OE's have met her needs nicely other than the noise once they started wearing down.

The former auto-x racer in me wants to instantly put a set of Re-11's or Pilot Super Sports in 265/35 & 285/35, but I am having doubts if they will just be overkill for her and honestly a waste of money since they will never be driven to their potential (unless I'm driving).

I was also weighing the option of keeping the stock sizing also. Worrying that upsizing will affect the drivability and road handling (wandering in uneven pavement). But when comparing prices increase from stock size to 265(Fronts)-285(Rears), the difference is not great, and the wider tires just look better.

So, I was looking at the Potenza S-04 Pole positions in the 265 & 285 sizing for $1,104.00+ shipping. They have a tread wear rating of 280 vs. the stock RE050 of 140. They RE-11's in the same size are $1,226.00 and have a tread rating of 180. Lastly the PSS are1,344.00 with a 300 tread rating.

All 3 options are about a $200 difference and I am trying to figure out what would be best for her car.

Fitment wise I did install a set of 15MM & 20MM spacers and we are still at stock ride height.

Thanks for the help ahead of time.

John
