DIYers also need to make sure the slip joints are in far enough before tightening the clamps. About a month after I installed my exhaust I just so happen to walk to the rear of the car after driving it for a while and I noticed the exhaust tips were sticking out a lot further than where I set them. Once the car cooled down, the tips would go back to the original positions. This was due to the drivers side rear slip joint not being in all the way and the clamp not holding it. The clamp did put a dimple in the outer pipe which prevented me from sliding the inner pipe in further than where it originally was. I could have tried a pipe expander to get the dimples out, but I ended up taking the car to a shop get it fixed and welded.
