I had the same problem. I bought a used set of Gen 3's and the finish was really dull and a few scratches. I used Adam's metal polish and Mother's polishing ball attached to a drill. The finish is nearly as good as new. For the really deep scratches, you'll need to wet sand, then polish back the shine. I'd try a "coarse/severe swirl remover" polish first though and see if that works.
