I don't ever leave mine in gear unless I'm on a hill (which there are none here in Phoenix really).

Im 24 and have ADD all my life (not this  , but forgetful of small things) and I always place my fob in the cupholder. What I don't do, however, is take it out of the cup holder when I get out of the car after I turn it off lol. The funny thing is I always realize about one second after I close the door. The one time I had them in the cup holder, I did this, but my keys usually never, ever leave my pocket until I go to bed and empty my pockets.
