Back when I was in the service and I would go to a foreign country, I'd ask the local cab driver or the bell boy (not the concierge) where they eat at. Often they would first recommend the typical tourist places. When I explained I wanted to know where THEY ate, they often had a different place and there I'd go. Now, in some places in Hong Kong (Wanchai), you would not do that at the risk of getting killed. Its just that way if you are a foreigner. However, most places always have little back alley eateries with the most authentic and best tasting dishes at normal prices.
