We've all had our leadfoot moments. I can't say what Jersey's laws are like, but in Maryland, I always advise residents to take it to court. They rarely make things harder for you, unless they want to make an example, and usually that's due to repeat offenses and a bad attitude. The standard, though, is that at worst, they'll decrease the fine by court costs, so you're most likely going to walk out paying that or less, and possibly with some points dropped off. But again, I don't know how things are in New Jersey.
