Problem again/first call to corporate:
( Click to show/hide )I go back to Dallas, all is well. Go to school, and when I was leaving, SHITE the car is stuck in park again!!! So I take it to my local dealer after talking to ***, and this POS, (forgot his name) at Bankston Nissan… PLEASE NEVER GO THERE
He stated that something was connected to the main wiring harness of the car. He said it is ruining the “ohmage” of the car. He said they will continue to look into it.
I get a call saying that it’s my foglights…
Sounded like BULL to me. And I then started my calls to Nissan Corporate. Got bumped up the line of corporate people and got ahold of Charles ****** (smart guy)
He said, I doubt your installers were stupid enough to hook into your main wiring harness for FOG LIGHTS. And he asked me to take my car to those guys, or at least ask them what they did.
I then got a call from the dealer saying that for $400 they could redo the wiring… F*CK THAT…
Called Charles again, and he asked the name of the guy, he called the dealership and then called me back and said, “go pick up your car, that service advisor no longer works at the dealership. ‘Ohmage’ isn’t a damn word, we cannot have people working at dealerships who are out to screw customers.”
AWESOME!!! LOL
The fix:
( Click to show/hide )Took it to my installer in Houston. He said, “look, there’s SOMETHING installed to your wiring harness. It isn’t the lights or the wiring for your 4th brake light…”
He looked into it and asked if I had a GPS tracker installed, and I said no, but the car WAS a rental. And he said “We install trackers all the time, but this thing is more than I have seen, this is over a $1000 system, it is wired to shut the engine off, prevent the car from starting, it will lock the doors, and roll the windows up… Maybe you’re high risk and Nissan or your bank put the tracker in because you were high risk?”
Oh, SH*T… Call Charles at corporate, he looks into it, and as he’s doing that, I tell the installers to connect my fog lights and radar detector DIRECTLY to the battery, and to rip all that GPS crap out of the car.
Charles tells me that no one at Nissan or Chase Bank (finance company AMAZING as well.)
Great have all the sh*t ripped out, and I had the 3rd brake light’s wiring disconnected so that the 4th brake light would use that wiring ONLY. I left, and no issues!
But Charles instructed me to drive carefully to the Houston dealership, and he told the dealership to replace the brake master cylinder. After a trip to Dallas and back with their Maxima, the service manager took me on a drive with their loaner Maxima and my Maxima, both times slamming on the brakes to show the braking difference, my car was worse, but not by much.
A month or so go by, no issues really. And Charles closed the case, no problem, I called him every two weeks or so to shoot the sh*t because the guy was SUCH a great guy.
Accident number 2:
Corporate call again/reopened my case:
( Click to show/hide )I call Charles, tell him what happened, and said look, this isn’t safe, what happens if I slam on the brakes at 70MPH and they don’t work? I’m putting myself and others in harm’s way…
He agreed, said he was sorry, reopened the case and that they’ll have a regional corporate mechanic come out to look over my car, and I asked for a mechanic from Tennessee to come out, and Charles said he would do that, no problem.
A few days later, I tell him that I need to fly to Los Angeles to visit my grandfather because he is in the hospital and to hold out on the guy coming to look over my car and I’ll be leaving my car with my GF in Houston.
Death of the Maxima:
( Click to show/hide )Monday, January 9th, 2012 (the flood):
Tuesday, January 10th, 2012 (bad news):
( Click to show/hide )girlfriend takes my car to work (told her to take it around every few days to make sure the battery wouldn’t go flat.) She called me at 4AM, LA time, (she’s a teacher and goes to work at 6AM) and she said, there’s water in your car, when I took my laptop out of your backseat floor it was wet, and she was hysterical, she felt REALLY bad… I told her, look, don’t worry about it, it’s too damn early, I just went to bed at 2AM, just have a good day at work…
She called 2 hours later and asked what I should do, and again, I told her not to worry about it, but she felt SO BAD that she insisted she takes off work to do something. And I told her to not worry.
Another hour later, she called and said, “look, what do you want me to do, I took the day off.” Now I felt bad. And I told her to take it to a carwash to have them vacuum the water out. She called me a about 15 min later and said that there was WAY TOO much water in the car and asked what I should do.
I called ***, he was in Los Angeles visiting his family, LOL. He called the dealership, called me and told me to tell my GF see Jennifer, the girl who worked next to him and they’ll give my GF a ride home.
At first, Jennifer called me and said look, you’re at $800 of damage for the floor board or whatever, maybe you should call your insurance company. I said well, my deductible is $1000, I’ll go out of pocket, but can you wait until I get there? No problem.
I also called Charles and said WTF, is something wrong with the car that there is water IN it after a it rained really hard. He said there was a TSB for a drainage hose from the sunroof down the A-pillar and it can get clogged and drain into the car)
Wednesday (the day the sh*t really hit the fan):
Thursday (the dreaded call to insurance):
Friday the 13th… (This is a FML date, it will have it’s own thread when I have the time):
( Click to show/hide )When my gf picked me up she wouldn’t hug me because she thought I was pissed off because she was the reason my car got totaled, LOL!!! (But I truly wasn’t)
So, I go check out the car, I first notice that there is water on the inside of the windshield, I needed interior wipers, LOL!!!
It still had a lot of water in it, ALL MY .40cal bullets are GONE!!! ;-(
The spare tire had water to the brim as well and I saw that where the auxiliary power outlet was, had rusted and there was a waterline on all the seats. The headliner had water and the radio had water as well.
Video of the death:
Saturday, (the call I was dreading, but maybe life was looking up!):
( Click to show/hide )I get a call from the adjuster saying that the car was declared a total loss, and I was confused for a second, LOL. He said, “I’m not supposed to tell you, but once someone calls you and gives you an offer on your car, you have TEN DAYS to find a new car before we stop paying for your rental car. So start looking NOW.”
BITCHIN’!!! I started going to TOWN looking for cars, but I didn’t have a payout figure. I assumed $20k… The trade in value at the time was around $19k and the CPO retail was $26k (GOD KNOWS WHY, because you could buy a base model for $26 if it was they had the correct incentives)
So I started looking. Maximas had gone up in price like a SOB, no more $20k base used ones (this is where I got some STUPID things from dealerships Most Stupid Thing Heard From a Nissan Dealer) And luckily they guy let me test drive a used 370Z too, but I needed to get an estimate of how much insurance was going to pay me.
Closing my case:
( Click to show/hide )I also call Charles and said, “Well Charles… It looks like my brake problems are fixed, the car is gone, declared a total loss.” And we both share a laugh (no homo.) And he says, “Well, sorry to see your car go, and sorry it caused you so many headaches.” I laughed and said, “Well, hopefully its for the best, and as much as I enjoy talking to you, I hope to never talk to you again about any Nissan problems!” And we both laughed, I asked where I can send him a gift for being such an awesome guy.
