Love, hate, heartbreak
This is a FULL story to my experiences with my previous Nissan Maxima, and on to my current car...
The only one you need to read if you want to know about my current issues is the 4th post...
Oh, and this is my biggest current issue: Problems Starting ;-(
And my car is a 2009 7AT, sport, touring, with <32k miles
It is VERY long, and sorry mods if this should be in the "Gallery" section, I don't really intend to do a build thread or anything...
Dealership names will be partially blocked and so will service guy's names
Man, oh man, where to begin.
Background info on me/moving to TX/car choices:
Choosing the first Nissan:
( Click to show/hide )I chose a 2009 Maxima because it was a LOT faster than the Avalon.
Here’s it the day I bought it
It was a base arse model S, no leather, no nav, no Bose, no fog lights, no nothing.
It had… 30k miles, certified pre owned (new tires and brakes) for $20,600.
I also knew it was an Enterprise Rental Car.
It is also where my love of warranties came from:
( Click to show/hide )I decided that because I was a student and I didn’t know any people in TX to fix my car, it’s best to get an extended warranty because the dealer will fix my car, AND I’ll get a loaner car (rentals at 20-21 cost an arm and a leg). I also got an oil change contract.
Anyways, THANK GOD I did this.
By the time the car reached TX, the driver’s seat felt like it was missing a bolt, the seat would “click” backwards during acceleration and come back during braking.
This is where I found ***** ***** in Houston, TX and then found MY service guy, *** (he no longer works there).
This was a $3000 fix, and I had a loaner for 5 days. They fixed it by replacing the seat base.
The issue was lessened, but it was back, exactly the same in a few weeks… F*CK… Another trip to the dealer and another $3K fix, and my problems were over.
Reasons to have a good dealer/the Max's mods
( Click to show/hide )Fortunately, I had become friends with *** and other’s at the dealership.
I bought an eBay spoiler, and had the dealer install it for $75 under the table.
I bought some factory painted from Nissan and that dealership for $75 (I had the cheapest color for some reason…)
And they installed them under the table for the cost of the installer’s diet coke, so 50 cents. LOL
I installed a K&N intake myself,
and I had Mike and the guys at NST install a RacingLine cat delete y-pipe (the Maxima has 3 cats, the third in the y-pipe.)
So, fast forward a bit, I get some Katzkin leather from eBay (AMAZING STUFF btw) $475 shipped, installed for $250 (needed some modification to look 100% flush, and I’m happy I didn’t do it myself)
I installed some fog lights, and had my radar detector hard wired, and tint installed all at the same place
Fast forward a bit more, I had some BS issues like the suspension rattling/squeaking, doors rattling, and the windows making some odd noises.
(Not sure if all of you have driven a CVT, but if you’re in D, you floor it, and it HOLDS a certain RPM, in a Maxima the redline is 6800RPM, and it usually hold a bit lower)
I also had the strange issue of my car HOLDING 7300RPM while flooring it.
With the intake and cat delete, I once passed a Camaro on the freeway (both had our windows down) and right when I passed him, I heard him yell “What the f*ck is in that thing?!?!?!”
So I told *** that, took the car in and they replaced 3 struts, 3 window motors and regulators, 2 motor mounts, and one transmission mount. He also told me to come back at 60k miles and that they would “fix my transmission” by putting a new one in, LOL!!!!!!
Next Maxima problem:
The accident:
( Click to show/hide )Came back a week later, they replaced some parts, but they said everything worked ok… They just did the fixes preventatively…
I left the dealer… got into an accident… Not too bad, I hit the tow hitch of a truck on the freeway, but it was in rush hour traffic, so it wasn’t bad, my car took the brunt of the damage, correction, 100% of the damage.
Pics:
Texted *** and called him, and like a TRUE good person, he didn’t give a **** about the car, he asked if I WAS OK, and if I needed an ambulance and/or a tow. (I realize this is what any dealership should do, but I had become friends with him, so I knew this was out of care, not to cover his ***.)
I declined, and just said that it felt like there was a bubble in the line… And that I would bring the car back after I did some stuff.
Brought the car back, he said take our Maxima to Dallas, can you be back in 4 days? No problem, came back. They couldn’t diagnose anything, but they flushed my brake fluid.
He said if ever I get any other problems, call him back. No problem.
