We screwed up, today we precisely took measurements. It turns out the Quaife is 5.034” at D-2, my ring gear ID measured 5.040”, that is where the difference lies. I jumped the gun and thought the Quaife was out of spec, should have known better, my work has taught me over and over to be absolutely positive before reporting. Some days I am really dumb.

I talked with Quaife and told them our mistake and it is the ring gear and not a machining dimension error. Sorry for any mis-information I have published, definitely my mistake. I know where the problem is now.

I called Forged Performance and Kelly said there should not be any slop between the Quaife and the ring gear; he is looking for a replacement ring gear for me. The replacement ring gear inside diameter needs to be 5.034” to 5.032”, I still wonder if others have experienced this issue.

If you have a good stock ring gear that meets an inside diameter of 5.034” to 5.032” please let me know.

Man this is frustrating to say the least, I plan on boosting this car so I want everything to be just right in regards to drive train components. I have no idea why this OEM ring gear is larger, if it were overheated (bought the car with 3K miles) you would think there would be slop in the OEM diff but there is not, it is tight as a drum.

I’ll be dining on crow the next few days.
