And I know it's thicker at operating, but if the goal is to prevent oil from being consumed, 10W40 is a better choice

Exactly. WA state is too cold to be using a 10w.
Burning/consuming oil is the same thing.
I'm pretty much set on changing out to Redline 0w-40 on my next change. After doing some research on this topic, tons of people in all kinds of different car forums swear by this weight oil.
