its a relatively easy fix if i understand what Alcheng told me
its literally just removal of a fuse when the car is in "on" position (so the lock is stuck in the disengaged position)

as my lock seems to have zero problems at the moment im going to wait until spring to take it off. Its far easier (and just prudent) to remove the piece rather than to wait for it to fail and have it dragged into a garage to replace (even if its covered under warranty and is free, its still garage time that you dont need)
