When going around corners and/or accelerating the fuel moves to the sides of the tank. If the level is low enough this can create a cavity at the fuel pump inlet and you lose flow. How much is "low enough" depends on the design of the tank. As others have mentioned, low enough is rather high in a 370Z. Or maybe it's just because they tend to get driven harder than a lot of cars.
