What's funny is that it really highlights how each driver is different.
You could look at NASCAR as an example. Teammates Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson might run identical lap times, but they do it with COMPLETELY different setups. Have them switch cars and they will hate it and probably run slower times.
