Yeah but you highlighted my post and ranted about the eclipse when all i mentioned about the eclipse was that the starion was transformed into the eclipse. The very first gen eclipse wasn't bad. In the early 90's, most cars in the $14k-21k range sucked. Most muscle cars with sub 7 second 60 times were about $25k.
Most japanese imports that were worth buying cost between $30-50k, Entry level bimmers of the time handled like a dream but were slow and entry level was $25k.
The initial eclipse models in turbo form hit 60 in about 6.7 seconds with a high 14 quarter and had all wheel drive and cost about 19k, 6k lower than the comp. Turbos were small but piping was there, and upgrading those types of cars pre-Fast & Furious was cheap. Mitsu was looked down upon by most upper middle class citizens of the day who expected out the box power and simple mods for big gains...
Guys who didn't mind elbow grease. Can do some damage with the early eclipse with a little bit of money. NOT saying mitsu's were track Gods... but if well modified? They held there own. Were decent handlers and for budget conscious car buyers they served its pupose. That's why I called the starion and early eclipses resptectable.
