Killing the animal can get you in a lot of trouble, especially if it is someone's pet. Discharging a firearm (in many places this includes air guns, paint ball guns, &c) in a populated area can get you in a lot of trouble. I can also close my eyes and see a zealous prosecutor and some kind of terrorism charges.
Tempting as it may be, extermination is probably not a good answer.
But if you live someplace where it's allowed, go for it. Cats are evil.
