Here is a quick and easy DIY for anyone who needs to get a new battery and would also like to drop 20 pounds off the front of the car. The total time is easily less than an hour.
I really like these little PC680 batteries as they last a long time and have plenty of juice to start the car.
First I removed all the plastic around the battery. Then I used a 6x100 die to thread the long OEM tie down almost all the way down to the hook. You could just as easily buy a universal tie down kit as they typically are threaded pretty far down the hook.
On the short tie down side there was a lower hole to mount the hook to so I used that.
Then I just put the battery to the back of the tray and torque the front tie down as low as it would go. The brace does bend as you torque down the front tie down but that is fine and the battery isn't moving anywhere.
