The problem with the current VVEL settings and FI is that there is high overlap (i.e. intake and exhaust valves open at same time) such that the force inducted intake charge can blow right through the cylinder. By changing the timing and reducing the overlap you can capture more of that FI in the cylinder and make more power.

Maybe now we can finally start making the big power of the 350Z engines at similar boost levels
