Word of advice when doing these in cold weather. Clean the surface with rubbing alcohol as best you can. Try to avoid using goo gone if you can because unless you get it ALL off, it will ruin the 3M backing.

Once the area is clean, carefully affix the new emblem and strap down both "sides" of the emblem securely with blue heat-resistant painter's tape. You do this because the back of the emblem is flat, whereas the area on your hood where you're attaching the badge is slightly convex. If you don't strap down both sides of the emblem, you may end up with one side sitting "higher" in the recession than the other.

Then cover the whole badge with tape and hit it in short bursts with the heat gun on LOW.

Leave the tape on the car for 2-3 days, then remove.

Voila, permanent emblems.
